ENTRY 3
IDENTIFYING BIAS
Item 1: “ Chim khôn kêu
tiếng rảnh rang
Người khôn nói tiếng dịu
dàng dễ nghe”
(Ca dao Việt Nam)
-
Stereotype
-
Analysis: The image of wise people is always giving
good sayings, regardless of the individual differences.
Item 2: “Lão
làm bộ đấy! Thật ra thì lão chỉ tâm ngẩm thế, nhưng cũng ra phết chứ chả vừa
đâu. Lão vừa xin tôi một ít bả chó...”
(Nam Cao, Lao Hac)
-
Assumption
-
Analysis: Binh Tu assumes Lao Hac to be guilty because
he thinks that Lao Hac begged him a little poison to kill someone’s dog. In
fact, Lao Hac did not kill any dog but himself.
Item 3: “Other countries
in the region are experiencing the same problem, as individuals who would
otherwise provide a household with income are prevented from working – either
because they are ill with AIDS themselves or because they are caring for
another sick family member.”
(Source:www.avert.org/aids-impact-africa.htm)
-
Scapegoating
-
Analysis: The people who are ill with AIDS & the
sick people of the families are blamed for no household income-the problem of
many countries in the region.
Item 1: i don't think it is the message of the fork-song. In my opinion it does not imply that wise people always give kind words but it advises people to carefully consider their words when talking to other. So, I think it is not a good example of stereotype.
Trả lờiXóaIn Item 3: I just want to recommend one small point:
Trả lờiXóa"another sick family member" is "another family member with AIDS"
so the problem of no household income in this region is blamed on the people with AIDS.
i don't agree with Thu....i think 2 kinds of people mentioned are differrent and i agree with Trang's analysis

Trả lờiXóaI don not agree with Xuan's comments. The example is good but Trang should clarify what are the "indivisual differences" here: Not all wise people give good sayings and wise people do not give good sayings all the time.
