This image is often used to overview the typical features of whole states in America. Actually, not all people in these states have the typical features like the picture.
Item 2: Scapegoating
" Poverty is the mother of crime”
– Marcus Aurelius -
Type of bias: Scapegoating
Analysis
This sentence emphasis that poverty caused crime. A lot of people think that because the poor don't have money, they are ready to do illegally to earn money such as stealing, kidnapping... Actually, not all the poor behave like this. They are not the root of all crime. Thus, they must not have responsibility for the community's problem: crime

Item 3: Discrimination
Blacks Only
While traveling
with her white business manager in Clarksdale, Mississippi in September 1937,
Bessie Smith was seriously injured in a car accident. Though Smith's manager,
who had suffered little more than a concussion, was sent to a nearby hospital,
a doctor on the scene ordered that Smith herself be sent to a "blacks
only" hospital several miles away. She bled to death before they arrived.
Type of bias: Discrimination
Analysis: Two people in this story, a black person and
a white one, were behaved in different ways:
Bessie
Smith, a black person who was injured more seriously, was forced to
be sent to a “blacks only” hospital several miles away instead of being rescued
by the doctor in nearby hospital. Therefore, it was too late to save her life
and she bled to death before they arrived.
Smith’s manager, the white who had suffered
little more than a concussion, was sent to a nearby hospital and was fine.
It can be noticed that
Bessie Smith was treated unfairly because she is member of the black.

I partly agree with your entry; however I would like to add somethings about the usage of some words.
Trả lờiXóaItem 2:
You write “Thus, they must not have responsibility for the community's problem: crime”. You should change “must not” into “do not have to” because their meaning are so different.
Item 3:
“a black person and a white one, were behaved in different ways:”-> were treated.
In item 2, I think it is not scapegoating. Scapegoating means holding one person or group responsible for all the community's problems. "poverty" is only a social phenomenon not a specific person, so it should be prejudice
Trả lờiXóaIn item 2, i agree with ngoc that it is “scapegoating” because "poverty " implies the poor, so is considered as a group in society. however, Ngoc should change a bit in your analysis so that your idear is more clear, you can add ,for example," poverty is blamed for the root of crime in society"...

Trả lờiXóaI have some personal ideas about your entry :
Trả lờiXóaIn item 1, I think the bias is given quite clearly
In item 2,I totally agree with the two former commentors Que and Diu that the bias should be prejudice; because the line " Poverty is the mother of crime” is just a negative saying of the certain author Marcus Aurelius and it also does not show whether any action is took to discriminate the people or the subject relating to the poverty ,or not.
In item 3, the bias discrimination is reasonable
I agree with your entry up to a point.I also have the same comment as Ha. I think you pay more attention to grammar mistakes.
Trả lờiXóaIn item 2,"this sentence emphasis that poverty caused crime",clearly emphasis is a noun so you have to use "emphasizes".
Moreover I think the type of bias in item 2 is prejudice because this is a negative judgement,no detail to prove that "poverty is the mother of crime".
