Item 1: Poem
Waiting - waiting – hesitating
Till it soon will be too late
For the sands of time are running
While you still procrastinate
All we get is talking – talking
Speeches – all we hear
Badly needed schemes are pending
And another year is here
Rhetorical devices
- Repetition: Repeat the word “waiting”, “talking”
- Rhyme: Hesitating – running, talking – pending, late – procrastinate, hear – here
- Parallelism: All we get is talking = speeches – all we hear
- Metaphor: Sands of time (time), another year (passing time), schemes (work)
Message:
People often wastes of time and procrastinate work, in stead of it, they should value the time and take chances.
Item 2: Fable
The Fox and the Grapes
One afternoon a fox was walking through the forest and spotted a bunch of grapes hanging from over a lofty branch.
“Just the thing to quench my thirst,” he thought.
Taking a few steps back, the fox jumped and just missed the hanging grapes. Again the fox took a few paces back and tried to reach them but still failed.
Finally, giving up, the fox turned up his nose and said, “They’re probably sour anyway,” and proceeded to walk away.
Rhetorical devices
- Metaphor : Fox ( loser), Grapes (success, target)
- Irony: Obviously, the grapes are ripe and sweet but fox supposes they are sour.
Message:
The losers often easily give up their targets and dreams and have contempt for what they cannot have.
Item 3: Cartoon
Rhetorical devices
- Overstatement: No student in class at University
- Irony: The crowd of pupils at Primary school contrasts with the absence of students in University.
Message:
Students become lazier and ignore their study when they are older.

looking at the faces of students in the picture, we can see that: primary students are all happy with studying (overstatement) while high school students become bored and do other things in class; university student don't even bother to go to class. that's the difference in attitude of students in different education level
Trả lờiXóaI partly agree with Xuan about high school students are bored with lessons in class but I dont think that we can realize the students' happiness with studying through their face. The rhetorical devices are overstatement and irony. The message is that students' attitude of studying is worse and worse
Trả lờiXóaThank for your comments, Xuan, Nhan. I agree with you some points Xuan indicated but I think the message Nhan said is more exact. Message of the picture is that the older students are the worse their study attitude of student is.

Trả lờiXóaI think the message of the cartoon should be: " the students at university, not the students in general, play truant more than the students at primary and high school because they are fed up with their study."
XóaI would like to add one more comment on your first item, about its message. Personally I think that you have got too far when including "they should value the time and take chances" in your message. The poem just says that human beings are wasting their time. :D))
