Item 1: Poem [1]
Love and Friendship
By Emily Bronte
Love is like the wild rose-briar;
Friendship like the holly-tree.
The holly is dark when the rose-briar blooms,
But which will bloom most constantly?
The wild rose-briar is sweet in spring,
Its summer blossoms scent the air;
Yet wait till winter comes again,
And who will call the wild-briar fair?
Then, scorn the silly rose-wreath now,
And deck thee with the holly's sheen,
That, when December blights thy brow,
He still may leave thy garland green.
Rhetorical devices
-Simile: (Use “like”)
Love -the wild rose-briar;
Friendship - the holly-tree.
-Rhyme: Imperfect rhyme:
+ Like-wild-briar (Love is like the wild rose-briar)
+Which-will (But which will bloom most constantly?)
+ Is-sweet-in-spring (The wild rose-briar is sweet in spring)
+Till-winter (Yet wait till winter comes again)
-A rhetorical question: But which will bloom most constantly?
And who will call the wild-briar fair?
-Repetition: the wild rose-briar, the holly.
-Parallelism: Spring, summer - winter, December.
(Sweet time of love) (Time to end of love)
Message: People should appreciate friendship rather than love because only friendship is immortal.
Item 2: Fable [2]
The Rabbit and the Turtle

One day a rabbit was boasting about how fast he could run. He was laughing at the turtle for being so slow. Much to the rabbit’s surprise, the turtle challenged him to a race. The rabbit thought this was a good joke and accepted the challenge. The fox was to be the umpire of the race. As the race began, the rabbit raced way ahead of the turtle, just like everyone thought. The rabbit got to the halfway point and could not see the turtle anywhere. He was hot and tired and decided to stop and take a short nap. Even if the turtle passed him, he would be able to race to the finish line ahead of him. All this time the turtle kept walking step by step by step. He never quit no matter how hot or tired he got. He just kept going.
However, the rabbit slept longer than he had thought and woke up. He could not see the turtle anywhere! He went at full-speed to the finish line but found the turtle there waiting for him.
Rhetorical devices
-Symbol: Rabbit symbolizes the quickness.
Turtle symbolizes the slowness.
-Metaphor: Rabbit (The type of person is overconfident and arrogant)
Turtle (The type of person is little, weak but hard in society)
-Paradox: The slow Turtle beats the fast rabbit in a running race.
Message: We should not underestimate the weakest opponent otherwise we can fail in life.
Item

of starvation, poverty, wars and diseases.

warming, terrorism, nuclear threat, HIV/AIDS, unemployment and recession).
First, I find that your cartoons in item 3 are interesting and meaningful. However, I can not see your picture in item 2. You should insert or even remove it if it is not neccessary. In general, I agree with your analysis about rhetorical devices as well as the moral lesson. A litter thing I want to give to you is that "human being is struggling to save the world", not "thư world is struggling..."
Trả lờiXóaThanks for your advice. Actually, the picture in item 2 is not important but I can see my this picture. Perhaps your internet is not good
Trả lờiXóaIn the first picture in item 3, I think the reasons you gave in the message such as starvation, poverty, wars and diseases does not be infered from the picture, just your background knowledge. In my opinion, the message should be " African are dying gradually."
Trả lờiXóaThanks for your comment. I know what you mean but I can explain my idea: If you see the picture carefully, you can find that African are skinny and injured.
Trả lờiXóap/s: sorry for my small picture :(
Item 3: I think they also die of overpopulation. I can see a mother holding a baby and there are a lot of people on a narrow space
