ENTRY 4- NGUYỄN THỊ
BẨY
Analyzing arguments
Type of fallacy: False dilemma
Analysis:
People have to choice between joining UK Internet MLM summit to have sky-rocketing business and
getting left behind. In fact, people can choose other services to develop business.
II.
Item 2
If you hate Slippery
Slope arguments, you will do poorly in class
If you do poorly in
class, you will drop out of school.
If you drop out of
school, you will commit crimes
If you commit crime, you
will go to prison
If you go to prison, you
will die of AIDS.
Type of fallacy: Slippery Slope
Analysis: The process of inference:
Hidden premise: All students who hate Slippery
Slope argument will do poorly in class –> factual error
If you hate Slippery Slope arguments
————>> You will do poorly in class
Hidden
premise: All students who do poorly in class will drop out of school –> factual
error)
————>> You will drop out of school
Hidden premise: People who drop out of school will commit
crimes –> factual error)
————>> You will commit crimes
Hidden premise: People who
commit crimes will go to prison –> factual error)
————>> You
will go to prison
Hidden premise: People who go to prison will die of AIDS
–> factual error)
————>> You will die of AIDS
***The conclusion is unreasonable and unacceptable due to
factual error of premises
III.
Item 3
Rooster crow just before the sun rises.
Therefore, roosters crowing cause the sun to rise.
Therefore, roosters crowing cause the sun to rise.
Type of fallacy: Post hoc
According to this
saying, rooster crow precedes the rising of the sun so roosters crowing cause
the rising of the sun. Actually, rooster crows instinctively and the sun rises
as its cycle not because of rooster crowing. Therefore, the conclusion that “roosters
crowing cause the sun to rise” is false.
IV. Item 4
Structure:
All
cats have four legs All S are P
I (the dog) have four legs------>> a is P
--------------------------------- ---------------
I am a cat a is S
Type of fallacy: Structural fallacy
The above argument is invalid. Two premises
are true but the conclusion is false due to the inference.
I agree with you in items 1, 3, 4
Trả lờiXóaHowever in item 2, may be you misunderstood about slippery slope. Slippery slope is the fallacy that insufficient premises lead to false premises
Specifically, analysis should be:
1. If you hate slippery slope argument
Hidden premise (HP): You won't want to learn slippery slope argument anymore
2. You will do poorly in class
HP: Your study result may be worst and you can become the student who is concerned as a person with low IQ and never can be trained
3. You will drop out of school
HP: You don't have enough knowledge to get any job, you will be poor, and you really need money
4. You will commit crimes
HP: People who commit crimes may to go to prison
5. You will go to prison
HP: You can approach to someone who contracts AIDS in the prison and you catch the disease from them
6. You will die of AIDS
